Nana's birthday and more for the first weekend of March!

Look at the beautiful bluebird on top of the shepherd's crook!!  They've been very busy in the two boxes hanging there and they're so much fun to watch!

Thursday evening, March 2nd, we all gathered at Longhorn Steakhouse to celebrate Nana!  She had friends, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren gathered around the table.  LOVE getting to spend time with my family, especially for a fun occasion like this!

Friday night, Katie and I had a girls night out.  We went to Shane's for some crawfish and then on to Tinseltown to see John Wick, Chapter 2.  Afterwards, on to meet Holly at Bed, Bath and Beyond to do some shower shopping for one of their friends and back home.  What a fun evening!!  So happy my girl is home for a couple of months of local nursing before she heads off for who knows where for her next travel assignment.

Saturday, I headed out for Bodcau Dam in Haughton for Women in the Outdoors.  Katie and I have come in years past, but she had to work so I was on my own.  They started late planning this year and didn't do any advertising so, as a result, there were only 12 women there!  And three of the instructors backed out the morning of the event so the 12 of us got to do the four events together.  They usually have between 40 and 60 women so this was new for me, but I enjoyed it.  We got to know each other and had a lot of fun!  I ate squirrel for the first time and actually enjoyed it, I made jelly for the first time, learned how to do square foot gardening and shot sporting clays.  They fed us a wonderful lunch of fried fish, hushpuppies, fries, cole slaw and a really good peanut butter bar dessert.  I was also the grand prize raffle winner!!  I won a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun!!  I haven't ever won anything at this event and was really pleased that I waited until now to win...:)

Frying squirrel in hog lard, grilling boudin and making hot water cornbread.

Enjoying the squirrel!

I actually ate two pieces of the squirrel - it's a very clean meat and didn't taste "gamey" at all.  The homemade boudin was SO good and so was the cornbread.  What a breakfast!!

My friend, Heather, teaching the jelly making class.

Winners of the jelly class prizes!!  AND we got to take jelly home with us.

LSU Ag Center rep telling us about the square foot gardening

Beautiful mile long, paved walking trail around the property so we went for a walk, too.  It was a wonderful day in the outdoors with wonderful women!

Sunday morning, I had toast for breakfast with the jelly that I made!  It was so good - thankful I had a good teacher and now that I have a book, I can make my own any time I want.  The nice thing is, no special equipment is necessary.  We went to church, did a little grocery shopping and back to the house.  I had boiled down some wilted vegetables from my produce drawer and made some really good vegetable broth earlier in the week so I made some vegetable soup.  I carried a Tupperware full to Shane next door who fell and broke her arm Friday.  She will be down for a few weeks and unable to do much.  And my mother tells me not to work on Sunday, but I feel my day of rest was Saturday so I did my laundry and got everything ready for the week!!  Thank You, Lord for a wonderful weekend!!
