Love long weekends!

Since we put all of our flowers on the graves Thursday night, it left my long weekend open!  And I didn't leave the house at all!!  Saturday was Kenneth birthday and he celebrated by getting up early and going to build a wheelchair ramp.  I did laundry and cleaned and in the evening, I got chicken and steaks marinating and made veggie kabobs for our Sunday afternoon grillfest.  We were celebrating Kenneth's birthday, Father's Day (since we'll be out of town), Memorial Day and Katie's last day here.  Daniel did a fabulous job of grilling and we all enjoyed the food!  It was a nice day of visiting with our moms and our kids.  Monday, Katie headed out for her next nursing assignment in Charleston, SC!!  She had her Pilot loaded down and was on the road by 7:00am.  It was a 13 hour drive for her, but thank the Lord, she made it there safe!  It was a wonderful long weekend filled with food, relaxing and a little work...just right!

Random happenings in the month of May

My boss has been growing and sharing a lot of the bounty from his garden...thanks, Charles!
The month has been busy and fun!  Here are a few random things that have been a part of it...

Coffee on the weekends enjoying the beautiful weather and the birds.  This pair of cardinals are frequent visitors.

Been enjoying having Katie and her "kids" at home with us temporarily.  Will miss them all when they head out on their next adventure to South Carolina on Monday.

Found some excellent crawfish right around the corner from our house at Drift In Landing-they're the size of small lobsters!

Our charity ride in Celina, TX got canceled due to rain so we were able to make the 2nd Annual Homecoming at North Highlands UMC on Sunday, May 21st.  It was nice having our family all together in our old pew...:)

Yesterday afternoon, we visited all of the graves to put new flowers on for Memorial Day...

...and ended up at Mudbug Madness in downtown Shreveport!  What a fun zydeco band we were entertained by, the food was great and the weather was perfect!

We came into Shreveport by back roads and I don't usually see this building from this angle. I always see the lady on the left wall from I-20 so I was glad to get this picture from this angle with both walls.

Mother's Day

What a wonderful day we had together celebrating MOMS!!  It could only have been better if Katie would have been home, but I'll have to get used to her being gone for holidays since she's travel nursing.  Kenneth fried fish for all of us as he does every year.  I'm so thankful we both still have our mothers with us.

May Marshall Car Show

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed my favorite car show!  The weather was absolutely perfect this second Saturday in May and we stayed longer than we usually do.  When you register your car in the show, you get a raffle ticket for a chance at a prize at the end of the show and we won!  A nice Craftsman tool bag, a pound of fudge and other car related odds and ends.
Caught yet another admirer looking at our El Camino!

Always enjoy visiting with Bob and Peggy...:)

I've discovered Walk-Ons...

I've already been here twice this month and may go again tonight!!  The atmosphere, food, all the TVs with any sport you want to watch and cold beer are all reasons to go!

Blue Moon...

Grilled bacon wrapped shrimp, jalapeno and cream cheese on corn grits-YUM! And look at Mum's shrimp poboy in the back!

Riding the south Texas Hill Country

Thursday, May 4th, I left work early and we headed for south Texas Hill Country.  We've heard about the awesome riding there and especially wanted to do the Twisted Sisters ride.  It's also know as The Three Sisters because the ride consists of three highways - 335, 336 and 337.  We loaded the bike into the camper, packed it with clothes, supplies and food and headed out.  We stopped in Cransfil Gap Thursday evening and stayed in a little campground there, courtesy of Bush.  We finally got to see where Kenneth's brother lives and I can see why he's been wanting us to visit...it's really beautiful there!  We toured the area, saw his and Sandy's house, met Sandy's daughter Missy and her family, stopped by the Horny Toad and had a couple of drinks then hung out at the camper and visited for a while before turning in for the night.  Friday morning, Curt and Lisa showed up with their bike in tow to visit with Bush and Sandy then the four of us headed out for Buckland Lake Resort RV Park in Kerrville, TX.  Once there, we set up the camper and headed out for a ride.  We were blessed with beautiful weather the whole weekend and the country down there is gorgeous!  We went through Fredricksburg first and stopped at Hondo's for dinner.  Afterward, we rode the Willow City Loop and stopped at a really cool place called Pecan Grove.  It used to be an old ice house, store, service station and garage back in the 50s.  The current owners restored and opened it about two years ago.  After that, it was back to the campgrounds for drinks and relaxing.  Saturday we were up, cooked and ate breakfast and were on the road by 9:00 to go ride The Sisters.  The ride certainly lived up to it's name - twisted!  It was a beautiful ride that took about three hours but we made several stops in between so it took a bit longer maybe.  We stopped at Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop and the Bent Rim Grill for lunch and of course, Kenneth bought the shirt that said he did three twisted sisters...  After that, it was on to the Javelina Harley-Davidson shop for free margaritas and to buy a chip and a shirt there.  When we got ready to leave, Curt's brand new back tire was flat so he got it fixed there.  After that, we headed back to the camper for the evening.  Sunday we headed out for Ingram to see the Stonehenge replica, rode down along the Guadalupe River and into Luckenbach, then on over to Albert, TX.  Such a beautiful ride and so many great places to stop!  We left Albert and planned to do one more scenic ride on the way back to the campground, but Curt's back tire went flat AGAIN only this time going down the highway.  Thank the Lord, and I mean it was definitely God's hand on them, Curt was able to keep control of the bike and they were safe - just a raspberry on Curt's knee and a bruise on Lisa's ankle.  Kenneth and I went back to the campground, got their truck and trailer and came back and picked them up.  So it was an early night back at the campground for a strong drink, dinner, fishing and thanking the Lord for safety and a wonderful weekend with good friends! We got up Monday and all headed for home.  Looking forward to the next time we get together!

Ready to roll!

Our dinner stop on the way to Cransfil Gap, TX

View from Bush and Sandy's porch - just so beautiful and peaceful...

Bush and Sandy

Sandy, Elaine and Kenneth

They've been here three years and have NEVER stopped at The Horny Toad!!

Breakfast stop after leaving the Gap. I love stopping at the local breakfast hangouts!

Had to watch out for livestock in the road!

Ended up seeing several places that had old boots on the fence posts.  Interesting way to recycle them.

Beautiful, shady area out back to sit and eat, drink or listen to the live music when they have it.

I brought my blinky cups from NOLA!!

Sunrise over our camper Saturday morning. I was always the first one up and took morning walks. It was a great campground!

Headed into the Twisted Sisters.

This car club was out for a ride! There were about 15 cars and I was so busy watching and enjoying them, I only got a picture of the last car!

I called this the roller coaster road - it was my favorite part of the ride!  This was just the tail end of it.

Kenneth directing me to the free margaritas they had in celebration of Cinco de Mayo!!

Back at the campground, the lake had SO many fish!!

Ingram, TX - since we'll probably never make it to the real Stonehenge, this will certainly do!

Elaine and Lisa by the Guadalupe River.

We rode for miles along the Guadalupe and it was just beautiful!

There were still some wildflowers blooming although the peak season was over.

So many neat little places to stop, sit on the porch and enjoy a cold drink.

Saturday night at the camper, chillin', drinkin' beer and eating pulled pork tortillas and chips...:)

I bought him two collapsible fishing rods and he got them all set up to fish.

Stopped at this waterfall on the way to Albert.

This is pretty much it for Luchenbach - a dance hall, bar, gift shop, and a couple of outbuildings...they had live music playing and it was pretty great!!

Hondo Crouch bought Luckenbach in 1971 for $30,000 and made it famous.

Luckenbach, TX - Where everybody is somebody!!

Rollin' into the Dance hall in Albert, TX

The "big ass tree" in the middle of the yard.

Planning the next route.

Another great place to stop!

The only visible injury of the flat tire...thank You, LORD!!!

Trying out the new rod - obviously works pretty good!!

Headed home...until the next time...
