Soup weather

Daniel and I met at Mum's place last Wednesday and she had her place all set up and dinner cooked for us!  It was Chicken and Black Bean soup, I think but whatever it was called, it was GOOD!  We all had seconds...:)  I love that she loves to cook for us and I always enjoy her company.  Thank you, Lord, for a wonderful mother!

Every 4th Monday

Every 4th Monday of every month for the last five or so years, a group of friends gathers at a local restaurant to stay caught up.  We used to all go to the same church but are now scattered over three towns and go to different churches.  Some months there are twelve gathered around the table, some months there are only three but we always have plenty to talk about!  I'm so thankful for and look forward to my "Church Chicks" dinners!

Last ride for November...

We had been itching for a ride all week.  We couldn't ride the bike to the reunion yesterday because we had the fryer and to much other stuff to carry so when we woke up Sunday morning, we dressed and took off!  Over Caddo Lake and headed west to Grandy's in Atlanta, TX for breakfast.  Afterwards, Kenneth found several roads we had never been on and my goodness!  What a gorgeous ride it was - nice and slow, no traffic, beautiful fall foliage.  Back over Lake 'O The Pines, through Jefferson and back to the house.

Water stop and stretch break.

After our ride, we came home, showered and went to say goodbye too soon to another friend.  Tami was a neighbor, Katie babysat her son who is now 18, she was a member of our church and only 47 when an aneurysm struck her down.  It's hard to lose someone so young.

Built the first fire of this winter season when we got home from church.

November Mini-Reunion

On Saturday, November 26th we rode the beautiful East Texas countryside over to Jefferson, TX to Bob and Peggy's house for a mini-reunion.  We brought the fish fryer and some white perch filets and fried fish for everyone.  Carl and Sandy came from Arkansas.  Andrea, Robert and Walter came from Dallas.  Kenneth drove to Dallas the day before and picked up Pamela Jayne from the DFW airport while I stayed home and cleaned, did laundry, got all the Christmas decorations up and baked cookies to bring for the reunion.  Pam brought Rita over to visit with everyone.  Shana and Ken showed up a little late and Shana's friend Shelly was there, too.  It was a bit chilly, but Bob kept a nice fire burning in the fire pit all day and into the night that kept everyone warm.  It was a wonderful day of good food (Peggy always does fabulous appetizers to go along with whatever we're having for dinner), good wine, family and warm memories.

On the way home, we got to see Mooringsport's Christmas decorations all lit up!

Thanksgiving Day

It's pretty bad that I only got two pictures of our Thanksgiving Day and one of them was a screenshot of the SnapChat I sent to Katie wishing her a Happy Thanksgiving/wish you were here snap!  Since we already had our turkey dinner before Katie left, we opted for steaks (filet mignon and ribeyes-yum!), baked potatoes, sautéed mushrooms and garlic bread.  Mum made Pumpkin Crisp for dessert and Daniel brought a nice bottle of champagne to have with our dinner.  Of course, Daniel also brought the steaks and garlic bread and I ended up freezing the steaks I bought because he buys MUCH better steaks than I do!!  He also brought some Cajun crab dip and crackers that I could seriously eat the whole container in one sitting it's so good.  It was just us, Daniel and the Moms so it was a small group, good food and football...the Steelers played Thursday night and won!

Haley chasing the "red dot" that haunts her at our house!

Fall is here!

Fall is finally here!!  We usually don't get "seasons" in Louisiana - it goes from cold to hot and hot to cold in about two weeks every spring and fall.  This year I've seen a lot more color in the trees...maybe because we've been on the motorcycle so much and I'm noticing it more, but I really think we've had more fall here than usual.  And I'm loving it!!  With the coming of fall begins the cooking.  There is always a Tupperware with Chex mix in my house around November and December.  This year, I had to ship it to Arizona so Katie wouldn't feel left out. :)Here is some of the fall color around our house...

Kenneth got his first hunt in on Monday, November 21st and within three hours had a deer.  This will fill our freezer and give us enough meat for this year so he won't have to hunt anymore.  He will go again if Daniel doesn't get one soon so he can fill his freezer, too.  The Lord provides us with so many blessings - venison and fish to feed us are two of them.

Here's what happens to the meat...
